With Liam Hemsworth and Jeff Goldblum locked in to star in Ronald Emmerich‘s Independence Day sequel, casting for other characters has begun as Nymphomaniac actress, Charlotte Gainsbourg, joins the project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gainsbourg is in talks to star in the sci-fi sequel, which would make quite the difference in Gainsbourg’s line of work.
Gainsbourg has appeared in three Lars von Trier films including Nymphomaniac, Antichrist and Melancholia as well as starring in the likes of The Tree, The Science of Sleep and 21 Grams. If Gainsbourg officially come aboard the project then she’ll also be joining newbie Jesse User, who will star as Will Smith’s character’s stepson.
To be honest, I’m just happy Goldblum is coming back for this so anything else is just fine with me. It will be interesting to see what Gainsbourg will be like in this genre, as she’s so used to playing tortured, artistic characters (Nymphomaniac scarred me for life). Almost twenty years after the original; Independence Day 2 will hit theatres on June 24, 2016.
