Childish Gambino is the gift that keeps on giving.
Back when “This Is America” came out, many revered the video for its powerful message. And with all that hype to look up to, Donald Glover gave us a follow-up that did not disappoint.
A far cry from the politically charged song and the satirical vitriol, “Feels Like Summer” felt like the Childish of yesteryears with its smooth vocals and daydream production. The song has just been given the video treatment and it is everything we could have asked from a video and more in such simple and artistic fashion.
Co-directed by Glover in collaboration with visual artist Justin Richburg, The animated video depicts Gambino walking through a neighborhood surrounded by various notable entertainers in the community enjoying the summer sun together. Cameos include Drake, Oprah, Nicki Minaj, J. Cole, Kanye West (wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat and being embraced by Michelle Obama), Chance the Rapper, Jaden Smith and much more.
In the words of Azealia Banks, who makes a cameo in the video in animated form, “You really showed the entire hip-hop culture love in this video…”. The harmonious vibe of the video speaks more volumes than words could and it comes as no surprise that many fans are calling this another video of the year contender.
