Christopher Nolan became one of Hollywood’s most powerful directors after The Dark Knight Trilogy. Nolan brought an indie sensibility and style to blockbuster films and his success allowed to make challenging and intelligent blockbusters such as Inception and Interstellar. Every project is shrouded in secrecy and with Nolan’s name attached it also comes with a huge amount of anticipation.
Warner Bros have announced Nolan’s next film due for release in July 21, 2017 but will not reveal any other details, including a title or cast. Regular collaborator Michael Caine speaking to the Hollywood Reporter said that Nolan was working on a secret script, but he did not know what it was about.
A rumour has now surfaced that the project will be a WWII film. A French newspaper reported that Nolan is prepping a movie based on Operation Dynamo, which involved the difficult evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force (B.E.F.) and other Allied troops from the French seaport of Dunkirk between May and June of 1940. The Mayor of Dunkirk also announced that the filming of a Hollywood blockbuster by a “world-famous director” would be taking place starting in June 2016. If this turns out to be true this will be Nolan’s first war film and his first movie based on real-life events.
I am interested in anything Nolan directs but his take on a war movie could be spectacular. We will bring you more news as it appears, in the meantime there are plenty of gems in Nolan’s back catalogue. I would recommend the mind bending Memento and the magical film The Prestige.
