Canadian witch house band Crystal Castles have been dropped from the bill of 79 Cents Party, a forthcoming live show at South By South West Festival in Austin, Texas. This was announced on Tumblr in a statement by one of the company’s representatives, which mentioned that “comments made by a member of the band” were the reasoning behind the decision to remove the band from the feminism-centric event.
In October 2014 vocalist Alice Glass left the band in acrimonious fashion, and the group’s other founding member Ethan Kath aimed some barbed comments at the departing singer last April. The band initially split up for good, however the band reformed and continued to tour in 2015 after Glass was replaced by another vocalist, Edith Frances.
