Daisy the Great are back with another musical sensation, unveiling their latest EP titled Tough Kid. This EP follows their successful album ALL YOU NEED IS TIME, which garnered a whopping 300 million global streams. A standout single from the new EP, “Time Machine 2,” features production prowess from Sarah Tudzin of the band Illuminati Hotties.
Sarah Tudzin expressed her excitement about the collaboration, revealing how Daisy the Great approached her with an innovative idea. They wished to remodel their initial song, “Time Machine”, bringing forth a fresh arrangement.
This wasn’t just a regular remix; it’s a revamped musical vision that stems from rethinking the structure and sounds. Tudzin found the experience unique and exhilarating.
On the other hand, Daisy the Great views “Time Machine 2” as the edgier successor to their original “Time Machine” track from the 2022 album. The collaboration with Sarah Tudzin was an opportunity they couldn’t pass up, hoping to craft a grittier and faster version of the beloved track. With additional input from band members Matti and Nardo, the revamped song is bound to be a hit.
Earlier in the year, the band released the first single from the EP titled “Looking U Up,” a catchy modern summer dating anthem. Accompanying the track was a vibrant music video, which the band later showcased in New Orleans for FLOOD Magazine’s ‘Neighborhoods’ sessions.
Fans also got a taste of the EP with Daisy the Great’s reimagination of the indie sleaze classic, “Rill Rill” by Sleigh Bells – a rendition that even earned Sleigh Bells’ stamp of approval.
In a relatively short span, Daisy the Great, comprising Kelley Nicole Dugan and Mina Walker, has carved out a niche with their folk-infused indie rock. Their journey began at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where a project about a fictional band morphed into the real-life formation of Daisy the Great.
Their musical voyage has been nothing short of remarkable, from their viral TikTok sensation “The Record Player Song” to their recent tour, which almost sold out.
Having expanded to a six-member band, their music retains its introspective nature, touching on personal complexities and ironies. As Dugan explains, their songs offer a solace to many by articulating delicate truths that resonate with listeners.
Parallelly, illuminati hotties, fronted by Sarah Tudzin, has a tale of evolution and resilience. Originally devised as an avenue for Tudzin to demonstrate her producing skills, the band took on a life of its own, resulting in successful albums and a distinctive sound dubbed “tenderpunk”.
Their journey, though speckled with challenges like label issues, stands testament to the power of persistence and artistic integrity. With a new album, “Let Me Do One More”, on the horizon, Sarah Tudzin’s journey remains one to watch.
Both Daisy the Great and illuminati hotties, with their unique soundscapes and narratives, serve as a testament to the ever-evolving indie music landscape. As both bands continue to produce music that resonates deeply with fans, the indie music scene can only anticipate what’s next.
