When the super successful video game Red Dead Redemption 2 was released back in October 2018, little people knew that R&B stalwart D’Angelo had a song featured on the official soundtrack. The song was previously unlisted but now, that song finally received an official release.
Titled “Unshaken” it is the first bit of new material from D’Angelo since his excellent 2014 album Black Messiah and you find the vocalist explores his lower register throughout, crooning bleak imagery over a percussive groove and the most subtlest of negro spiritual undertones.
A massive success from release, other contributors to the Western action-adventure game’s soundtrack include Willie Nelson, Josh Homme, Nas, and Rhiannon Giddens. Arca, Colin Stetson and Queens of the Stone Age’s drummer Jon Theodore also feature.
Whether this the sign of new music to come is uncertain but there is still plenty of classic, timeless music from D’Angelo to stick your teeth into while we wait on for more news.
