Since October 4, Demi Lovato has been uploading short videos on YouTube which describe each song on new album Confident. The latest video details passionate track “Father” which is about Lovato’s abusive father who passed away in 2013. She begins the video by saying that she was conflicted when he died as he was abusive but because it was due to mental illness, she knew that it wasn’t entirely his fault.
“He was abusive, he was mean but he wanted to be a good person,” Lovato remembered. “When my mom married my stepdad, he still had this huge heart where he would say, ‘I’m so glad that he’s taking care of you and doing the job that I wish I could do”.
