Having burst onto the screen in 2013, Disney‘s mega-hit Frozen literally took over the world and infiltrated the lives of pretty much anybody with children. Kids everywhere are still toting Anna dolls, singing Frozen songs and wearing Elsa costumes as the hype around the animated flick continues to grow. With the Frozen short, Frozen Fever, hitting theatres before showings of the new Cinderella flick this month; it was only a matter of time before Disney confirmed a sequel and it seems the time is now!
Frozen filmmakers Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have repeatedly said that they would not go ahead with a sequel unless they had the right story so they must have come up with a stellar narrative for the movie to get the green light. At a recent shareholders’ conference call, Disney CEO Bob Iger and John Lasseter revealed that the studio had actively begun development for Frozen 2. Here’s what Lasseter said about the sequel plans; “We enjoyed making Frozen Fever so much and being back in that world with those characters. Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we’re taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that”.
With talks of a Broadway musical and more film and television spin-offs, it doesn’t look like the hype around Frozen is going to be slowing down anytime soon. Still, with the movie grossing over a billion dollars worldwide, I’m not really surprised. Excited for the Frozen sequel? Comment below and let us know! In the mean time, check out the trailer for the new short.
