Iron Maiden are booked to close 2016’s Download Festival, it was announced on Oct 19. The Donington show will be their only UK appearance of the year in which they will embark on a world tour of their new album Book Of Souls. It will be the metal veteran’s sixth time playing the festival and they will touch down at East Midland’s airport in their Ed Force One jumbo jet for the UK date on June 12.
The band and festival trended on Twitter in the UK, prompting a wide reception of mixed reviews from festival goers due to the band’s frequency at the festival. Many welcomed their appearance, pleased to have such success headlining one of the most popular rock festivals once again.
Whilst I’m excited to see them perform, it would be refreshing to see some deserved new generation bands given headline slots, exposing them to a larger audience. However, there’s no denying that Maiden will never fail to disappoint and cater to millions of fans both young and old, with their place on the Download main stage remaining a pinnacle of British music.
Tickets go on sale on October 23 at 9am and you can buy them from the official Download website.
