As far as rumours go; this one’s pretty interesting. With Marvel and Sony joining forces to bring a new Spider-Man to the screen, a new rumour as to who will write and helm the project has made its way online and with the source coming from Latino Review; there’s around a 50/50 chance on it being actually true.
Rumour has it that Drew Goddard will be writing a script for and then directing what’s being called The Spectacular Spider-Man. Goddard was originally meant to write the Netflix series Daredevil but was only a helping hand as Steven DeKnight stepped in when Goddard was named director for Sony’s The Sinister Six spin-off. Now it looks like Goddard will be helping bridge the gap between Sony and Marvel, ensuring the complete end to the Amazing Spider-Man franchise. Here are some of the details on the rumour;
“No new origin story, Spidey exists from the beginning, taken as a given. New actor, probably an unknown, he will be specifically based in High School and they want him to be able to grow up into the role. The thought being if this works, Spidey can do multiple trilogies for years ala Harry Potter. A major part of the first film will involve Spider- Man fighting Iron Man and then trying to pass the “audition” to join the Avengers. The first film will involved the Sinister Six coming together with the thought to later maybe spin them off”.
This is all very intriguing and seems pretty legitimate. With other sources still speculating as to which character will be taking over and what ethnicity they’ll be, nothing has yet been confirmed. Skipping the whole origin story sounds like it might make it difficult to get audiences on board with a new Spidey but in this case, I think it’s a pretty solid idea. I’m also totally ready to see some kind of ‘audition’ for The Avengers by fighting Iron Man! As rumours go, I’m cool with this one. The new Spider-Man will make his first appearance in Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016.
