The song uses the metaphor of being a psychic to highlight how anxiety can feel like a superpower, but one that only brings bad news.
The song’s creation reflects meifoon’s spontaneous and therapeutic songwriting process. The lyrics of “clairvoyance” emerged from anxious thoughts quickly jotted down in his phone’s notes app amidst daily life. Unlike his previous sadder music, this track combines introspective lyrics with upbeat melodies, drawing inspiration from artists like James Ivy, ericdoa, and brakence.
Produced in a DIY bedroom setup, “clairvoyance” showcases meifoon’s hands-on approach to music creation. He has been making music for 14 years, starting in small bands during secondary school and later as part of the dream-pop indie band ‘see you at home’. This project marks the first time he has sung publicly, providing him a platform to grow musically.
In addition to his new single, meifoon is working on more songs that blend bright, poppy vibes with complex emotional themes. He hopes “clairvoyance” will be an upbeat, comforting companion for anyone struggling with anxious thoughts.
Growing up in East London, meifoon was surrounded by music from a young age. His parents have footage of him singing and playing toy instruments as a toddler. Inspired by the British indie rock scene and later emo music, meifoon has recently started exploring experimental genres like hyper-pop and dream-pop.
The name meifoon is derived from a childhood nickname, ‘meifun,’ which translates to ‘noodles’ in Chinese. This name reflects his blend of Chinese and British cultural backgrounds.
While his passion is music, meifoon works at a software company. “clairvoyance” serves as an introduction to his new musical identity, providing listeners with a snapshot of his inner thoughts set against an upbeat, poppy track.
