Ella Clayton Invites Listeners To Be Present With ‘Come Pass The Time’

London-based singer-songwriter Ella Clayton continues to enchant audiences with her heartfelt music, and her latest single, “Come Pass The Time”, is a beautiful reflection on presence and connection in an often-distracted world.

After time spent busking in Brighton and Berlin, Ella returned to London to record her debut album with producer Lester Duval (The Odd 910, Pip Millet, 2nd Exit).

Their shared love for raw, authentic sounds led to an intimate and immersive recording process. Now, with “Come Pass the Time”, she builds on this foundation, delivering a track that is both deeply personal and universally relatable.

Recorded at Damian Montagu’s Moonshot Studios in the tranquil South Downs, the song was inspired by a simple note in Ella’s journal: the idea that words can be gifts, presence is precious, and touch can speak when words fail.

The track’s haunting piano, composed by Montagu, guides listeners through its emotional journey, culminating in a powerful, wordless resolution.

This song is about being in the moment,” Ella explains. “Zadie Smith wrote, ‘Time is how you spend your love,’ and that really shaped ‘Come Pass the Time’“. It’s an invitation to be fully present with someone, even when words fall short.”

Ella’s music has earned her critical praise, with Fresh on the Net describing her sound as “echoes of early Tracy Thorn in a jam with Laura Marling.”

Rough Trade has recognized her as “an emerging talent to watch out for,” and LeftLion’s Phil Taylor calls her “one of those singer-songwriters who speaks right into your heart, homing in, unerringly, with pinpoint accuracy.”

Her debut LP, Murmurations (2022), and acoustic EP, Stairwell (2023), drew attention from The Independent, Joyzine, and God is in the TV. Her music has reached wider audiences through syncs in the BAFTA-winning film Sweetheart and Netflix’s interactive game Dead Man’s Phone.

Recognized for her talent, Ella was longlisted for the Glastonbury Emerging Artist Competition in 2022 and personally selected by George Ezra to perform at Latitude Festival in 2023.

From sold-out headline shows in London and Brighton to spellbinding performances on international stages in Paris and Los Angeles, Ella’s ability to weave heartfelt stories into her live performances has won her a devoted following.

Whether performing at major festivals like Truck, Black Deer, and Latitude, or in intimate European venues, her music resonates deeply with listeners, drawing comparisons to Laura Marling and Jeff Buckley.

With her second album, recorded at George Ezra’s Hotel Quebec Studio, set for release in 2025, “Come Pass The Time” offers a compelling glimpse into Ella’s evolving artistry.

The accompanying live video captures the magic of the track’s creation, serving as a poignant reminder of her gift for blending intimacy and universality in music.
