Spoken wordsmith, Emmanuel Speaks, has released his EP, entitled Russian Roulette, a six track ensemble of spoken word that features some of London’s emerging artists and producers, who have worked together to produce this masterpiece with a meaning.
The track side on the EP are situated around topics of lust, love, faith, gender, and power, whilst touching lightly on the subjects of domestic violence and depression. Emmanuel has taken an authentic approach to his EP by covering Beyoncé’s timeless album I Am…Sasha Fierce, but with a twist of which fans and critics alike will later see as part of a short film due for release in October.
Russian Roulette has been released with a collection of artwork from some of Emmanuel’s favourite illustrators, who interpreted some of the themes addressed on his EP, available to view now here. This is Emmanuel Speaks’s most detailed project yet, and he has challenged the conventions of spoken word poetry, whilst breaking the boundaries of storytelling.
I hope when you listen to Russian Roulette ahead of the film release, you understand how. Listen to Russian Roulette below.
