It seems that everybody has an opinion on the new Ghostbusters 3 female line up and this week we reported on what Ghostbuster alumni Dan Aykroyd had to say about the reboot cast. Well, it seems Aykroyd’s not the only former Ghostbuster that has a thing or two to say about director Paul Feig‘s choice to hire an all female cast, Ernie Hudson has his own thoughts on the reboot.
Hudson just can’t make his mind up about what he thinks about the new line up. When the idea was first brought to the public’s attention, Hudson had said an all female cast would be a “bad idea” and when the line up was officially released this week, he posted a cryptic “no comment” tweet, which was later deleted. Well, now it seems as if Hudson has backtracked completely by posting another Tweet, commenting, “four fiercely funny, foxy females busting ghosts…phenomenal”. You might remember Hudson singing a completely different tune when asked about the reboot back in October;
“I heard it was going to be a total reboot, and that it would have nothing to do with the other two movies. If it has nothing to do with the other two movies, and it’s all female, then why are you calling it Ghostbusters? I love females. I hope that if they go that way at least they’ll be funny, and if they’re not funny at least hopefully it’ll be sexy. I love the idea of including women, I think that’s great. But all-female I think would be a bad idea. I don’t think the fans want to see that. Maybe it will come out and be the most amazing thing, but in my opinion I think it would be wrong to do another movie that didn’t include the guys. And that didn’t include me”.
With Paul Feig keeping plot details under wraps for the time being, it’s hard to judge just how much the new reboot will have to do with the original movies, so Hudson has a point here but continuing by saying “…I hope that if they do that way at least they’ll be funny, and if they’re not funny at least hopefully it’ll be sexy“, just leads me to believe that half of Hollywood are still skeptical as to whether women are still funny and hey, if you’re not, you better at least be sexy, right? Sigh. Still, Hudson is perfectly entitled to have changed his mind and if he’s now in support of the new Ghostbuster girls then I’m all for it! Many have asked the question as to why would Feig get an all female cast but why not? Give them a chance is what I say!
