“What Do You Call A Woman?” is a new single by US singer-songwriter Esmé Patterson inspired by Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean”. You may not hear a resemblance instrumentally, the tense Rock and Country sound is far from that in the 80’s pop hit but lyrically, the song is told from the point of Billie Jean. Michael Jackson sang “Billie Jean is not my lover” while Esmé Patterson sings “If you make love, ain’t she your lover?”. Her new album Woman To Woman, released on February 5, 2015 will be a collection of songs told from the perspective of “women immortalized in popular songs over the years“.
