Facebook have squashed rumours that they were planning to release a competing streaming service to the likes of Spotify, Apple Music and Tidal. Initial reports suggested that Facebook were in talks with major labels about the ad-supported monetization of music videos, one report implied that this would lead to the site’s own music streaming service. A spokesperson for the site later revealed in an interview with The Verge that they have “no plans to go into music streaming“. A source at a major label additionally announced that they had not been contacted by Facebook regarding an on demand streaming service and expressed their initial disbelief of reports.
