The new Balmain campaign follows the inspiration that family gives, showing sibilings such as Gigi and Bella Hadid, Kendall and Kylie Jenner (because they will sell your brand more than anything), and talented Joan Smalls with sister Erika Smalls. After Balmain’s campaign for Spring 2015 with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Olivier Rousteing shared that this autumn 2015 campaign was inspired by the capture of a kiss from the West couple, so he wanted to continue with that emotion. And, well… I don’t buy it.
Rousteing already did that last campaign, is this lack of inspiration? or is he trying way too hard? I don’t think this would had happened if it wasn’t for the fact that all the sisters involved are extremely famous, to me it looks like a non-concrete idea: they’re sisters and they love each other but they’re pushing each other away or one on top of the other one? To me, it’s a very poor campaign, I’m not questioning any talent hey may have as a designer, but it’s too many very famous people, and I see them almost everyday on social media, magazines, etc., I don’t need to see them all together in a campaign, but if they sell…
