Fate of the Furious, the eighth instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise, won out over every box office newcomer on Friday evening. The film earned $11.2 million at 4,329 locations, adding to the already impressive numbers of last weekend, where the blockbuster had made a staggering $532.5 million worldwide.
In China alone, the Hollywood high-speed action film passed the $300 million mark at the box office on Saturday evening. But the numbers are not exactly surprising for the franchise. The previous Fast and Furious movie, Furious 7 made $1,51 billion worldwide and $350 million in America.
The enormous success of the movies is predicted to continue: the cast led by Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez have already signed on to make films 9 and 10, which are set to be the last chapters of the story of Dominic and Mia.
