French-American artist Melissa Weikart has officially released her latest single, “Better When You Wait”, a unique track that sits in the space between longing and patience. The song blends jazz, avant-garde pop, and delicate vocal layers, wrapping the listener in an atmosphere that feels both weightless and deeply introspective.
Inspired by the push and pull of time,“Better When You Wait” lingers on the idea that some things only reveal their true meaning when you stop chasing them. Her music has always thrived in contrast. Born in Paris, raised in Boston, and now based in Strasbourg, she moves between different musical worlds, shaping them into something uniquely her own.
She studied at the New England Conservatory, where she worked closely with avant-garde pianist Ran Blake, learning how to craft music that doesn’t fit into a single box. You can hear her teacher’s influence here, in the way the song never settles into something predictable and in the way it builds tension.
Her voice floats over layers of dissonant chords, minimal yet striking; and then there’s the piano. Melissa Rosen’t just play the piano, she moves trough it, every note feels intentional and full of emotion, even when it seems like she’s letting the song wander.
The uprising star has been getting the recognition she deserves, winning the Nancy Jazz emerging artist prize in 2022 and the Concours National de jazz à la Défense instrumentalist prize in 2023.
Her incredible skills show how she balances precision with looseness making “Better When You Wait” hit even harder.
