To fans of the original Ghostbusters films (1984, 1989) the names Egon Spengler, Ray Stantz, Peter Venkman and Winston Zeddemore are sacred and seemingly cannot be replaced. However, filmmaker Paul Feig believes it’s time for the all-female reboot and with it, he has come up with some stylish names to match the originals.
The cult favourite film about a ghost-detecting scientist team in New York has been updated for release next year. It is not Ghostbusters 3 or attempting to step on the toes of the previous films. The all-female cast has been a controversial decision, causing a wave of speculation since its announcement in 2014, but the involvement of Paul Feig, with his regular comedic collaborators Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy (all three worked together on Bridesmaids) suggests the film is in good hands.
The other leading ladies are Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, from Saturday Night Live appearances. We can definitely expect a enjoyable mix of fun, laughs and general silliness from this group of comedians. Feig took to Twitter yesterday (July 19) to reveal the names of the lead characters. Do the character names have the same panache as the originals?
The character names are Jillian Holtzmann, Erin Gilbert, Abby Yates, and Patty Nolan. Reports have suggested the character assignment to each actress, which Feig has yet to confirm. Other actors involved in the project are Chris Hemsworth, Michael K. Williams and Andy Garcia. Fans have already been teased by production pictures of the four leads in Ghostbusters’ jumpsuits, the car and proton packs. Meanwhile confirmation has been released that original cast member Dan Aykroyd will be returning for a cameo appearance.
