The Manic Street Preachers recently kicked of their anniversary tour, marking 20 years of their landmark album, The Holy Bible, which was released in 1994. They are one of the most important British bands that are still going. Their 1998 single “If You Tolerate This, Your Children Will Be Next”, went to number one, which is an extraordinary achievement considering the song’s deep rooted politics, and political message, proof that such a rare thing can co-exist in mass pop culture.
They are also responsible for the trend of pop stars kissing the camera screen in music videos, with frontman James Dean Bradfield doing just that in the video for the Manic’s third single “You Love Us”, from their debut album Generation Terrorists. The Guardian’s Emily Mackay recently took us through some of her Manic highlights and their top ten songs, and explains why they are all so important to her, read it in full here, and listen to the playlist below.
