Ever since Batman Begins Christopher Nolan’s been on a roll producing and directing either comic book adaptations or sci-fi movies. His new movie, however, is a WWII story and he has assembled another impressive cast, starring usual suspects like Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy, as well as newcomers Fionn Whitehead and a charming chap, called Harry Styles.
The new trailer, in proper Nolan style, gives precious little away. Tom Hardy, who is in the habit of wearing masks for his roles (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises and Mad Max: Fury Road), seems to be playing a pilot here, taking his oxygen mask off. Cillian Murphy, meanwhile, is a soldier who seems to be intent on making it out alive, even if it means deserting the battlefield.
As you may have suspected, even though we get a few glimpses of our lead, newcomer Fionn Whitehead, we are all very excited to see Harry Styles. Thankfully, this trailer did not disappoint, although it also shows Hazza get himself in a precarious underwater situation.
Christopher Nolan’s war drama will debut next summer, Friday, July 21. The footage will mix 65mm with glorious IMAX to achieve Nolan’s trademark vision, while Hoyte Van Hoytema’s cinematography is surprisingly vivid and rich, given the sombre topic of the Dynamo operation.
