In continuing Hollywood’s attraction to well-loved classics, Christopher Robin is beginning to materialise, and has now cast Hayley Atwell to play grown-up Christopher’s wife. She joins lead Ewan McGregor in live-action film that bears a likeness to Saving Mr Banks and Hook.
The film centers on Robin from the Winnie the Pooh series, now grown up and lacking his sense of imagination, choosing to prioritise work over family and friends; with his life a mess, Pooh and friends – Tigger, Eeyore, Piglet, Owl, and Roo – return to help Robin find his youthful energy once again.
Marc Forster (World War Z) directs from a script written by Allison Schroeder (Hidden Figures). The film has a recipe for success, as live-action hits such as box office winner Beauty and the Beast has proved.
Hayley Atwell is no stranger to Disney, having appeared as Agent Carter in Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger and a subsequent series that was unexpectedly cancelled last year. She also starred briefly as Cinderella’s mother in the 2015, you guessed it, live-action adaptation.
Disney hasn’t yet announced a release date or production schedule, and there is plenty of casting to be announced.
