London based four-piece, Hugh, are releasing their album in May/June and here is the first single, “This Is How It Starts”. They describe their influences as Grizzly Bear, Beach House, Meshell Ndegeocello and Bipolar Sunshine. The quartet have received ringing endorsements from AlunaGeorge and Diplo.
“This Is How It Starts” dims in and out, ethereal and soothing though gradually building in its light cacophony. Then this seems to change key slightly, like the harmony of angels in song, though the listener remains grounded via industrial sounding drum and singing proper. Glitchy melody weaves in and out of restless and relentless drum. It fades out soothing, too.
