Ian Hunter & The Rant Band are to release new album, Fingers Crossed, out on Friday, September 16 on Proper Records. This features the much anticipated homage to the late, great David Bowie, called “Dandy”. Of course, in Hunter’s time with band, Mott The Hoople, Bowie wrote their massive hit, “All The Young Dudes”.
“Dandy” opens with grand guitar, a touch of twin lead going on. It swings with a certain sadness, perhaps mourning the loss of a musician that helped boost his career immeasurably. That guitar lead, though, is still rather triumphant despite the underlying melancholy. The middle section lifts it elsewhere, the song then ending and fading out as classic as it began.
