After being launched earlier this month, Andres Muschietti‘s film adaptation of Stephen King‘s It has flew to great heights, shattering record after record. Its record breaking $123 million domestic opening meant the biggest ever launch for a horror film, and its commercial success continues to grow. A sequel, thus doesn’t sound like a bad idea.
New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. were able to today announce that a sequel will premiere on September 6, 2019. Gary Dauberman, who helped pen It, has signed on to also pen the follow up, though Muschietti is yet to officially be attached. Producers Barbara Muschietti, Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg, however, are also expected to return for the sequel.
After a group of friends banded together to beat their town’s demon in the first It, the sequel will revisit the group of adults. It will take place in the present, though allowing for plenty of flashbacks and moments of nostalgia.
