James Bay’s debut album Chaos and the Calm has claimed the number one spot in the UK album charts, replacing Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly at the summit. James Bay was the BRIT Awards Critics Choice winner earlier this year, and his debut album reportedly sold 64,000 plus copies in its first week. Elsewhere on the album charts, Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly slipped to fifth place, while the most streamed album of the week, Sam Smith’s In the Lonely Hour, remained at number 2. Ed Sheeran’s X, which has now passed the 2 million sales mark, is at number 3, spending its 40th consecutive week in the Top 10. James Bay’s success sees him follow in the same fashion as the previous winners of the BRIT Awards Critic Choice, his track “Hold Back The River” remains satisfyingly at number 2 in the UK singles charts.
