Toronto rapper, Jazz Cartier, has released a track named after the legendary New Orleans superstar, and is produced by Lantz, who previously worked with Cartier on his critically-acclaimed Marauding In Paradise mixtape. The song, “Lil Wayne”, premiered recently on OVO Sound Radio.
The backdrop is certainly cinematic, horror movie, even. It is moody and tinkling with barely concealed venom. The lyrics, in turn, are serious and more or less cover all bases typical of, it seems, most of the genre. The low, low bass is somewhat reminiscent of the West Coast G-Funk, very ominous sound. Horror rap maybe. Welcome to Death Row. Under a new guise, that is.
