Lionsgate have released the trailer for American Ultra, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart as stoner couple Mike and Phoebe. Mike’s secret past as a government agent comes back to haunt him after he accidentally kills two government operatives with a spoon. Yep. A spoon. It seems that Mike then spends much of the movie dodging death and killing antagonists in the most unexpected of ways, all whilst trying to rescue his girlfriend, Phoebe, from Topher Grace, who plays a government official in charge of bringing the seemingly unstoppable Mike down.
Eisenberg and Stewart’s eternal awkwardness brings laughs to this trailer, which hopefully doesn’t feature ALL of the funny bits. It’s hard to tell for sure, but American Ultra does possess the potential to be as successful as Pineapple Express or Superbad. This won’t be the first time Eisenberg and Stewart have starred alongside each other, they both appeared in underrated comedy drama, Adventureland, in 2007. American Ultra is released later this summer.
