Justin Vernon has said that the group Bon Iver has no plans to make another album anytime soon amid fears of being “an asshole“. Vernon said in a statement to Grantland: “I definitely care about the Bon Iver thing a lot, but it’s kind of my thing and there’s only so much time you can spend with yourself before you just become an asshole. So you gotta push it”.
Back in 2013, Vernon said that he wasn’t in the right “headspace” for a third album with the group. “I’ve been taking it really slow. I don’t mean to get all cerebral about my art, but I’ve been trying to collect improvisations and collect moments. Like, real moments, [and] put them in a pot and serve them up“, Vernon added in the new interview.
He added that, “I just think maybe I ran my course with being able to come up with new moments on the guitar. As far as putting a record together, I don’t really know what’s happening. Our show is our main focus. We don’t have anything booked after this. We don’t have any plans. We’re not being secretive – we just don’t have any plans”.
Fans are going to be hugely disappointed by this as Vernon has previously said Bon Iver’s performance at Eaux Claires Music and Arts Festival would “start this new cycle and new life of the band“. They are going to have to be careful that bringing false hopes and promises to fans won’t turn them into assholes. Watch Bon Iver’s “Calgary” below.
