Still riding high on the back of strong support for his latest EP Nu Skool from the likes of MTV UK, GRM Daily, SBTV and the MOBO Awards among others, 21-year old Essex rapper K.G 1001 – formerly known as Kid Gospel – is back with a brand new track “Wave” and its accompanying visuals, premiered via Link Up TV.
Sampling Travis Scott’s “Maria I’m Drunk”, K.G 1001’s ‘Wave’ sees the Essex native following his creative instinct, into a different direction from any of the music he has previously released. K.G 1001 is hoping that this new offering will enable more of his fans and peers to find their creative zone, the way that he has, as K.G 1001 embarks on his newly found sense of direction.
Harnessing a sound and style that is difficult to pin down to one UK urban music genre, K.G 1001 describes “Wave”, which is indicative of his new carefree artistic direction, as “in its own lane. I wouldn’t say it was this or that. I want listeners to decide for themselves. ‘Wave’ was a creative moment, and I’ll have other creative moments that may see me produce a different kind of music and that’s ok”.
Speaking about how the record came about, K.G 1001 confesses, “to be honest, ‘Wave’ might have never seen the light of day. I’d just come in from a drunken night out with the mandem. I’m not promoting getting drunk, but everyone my age gets a bit wavy from time to time, and that’s what happened to me. I got home, literally threw the Travis Scott instrumental on logic, and started rapping”.
