Kanye West has divided opinion yet again by his performance at Glastonbury. The headline act was expected to do “big things” but instead it was just lights and Lee Nelson. The British comedian made Kanye West’s performance more exciting by his on stage invasion. The prankster went onto Twitter to say, “Some people were saying Kanye shouldn’t headline Glastonbury so I thought I’d give him a hand“.
West performed alone on the Pyramid Stage and all that was with him where numerous spot lights shining down on him from above. To perform on a set like this for an hour and 45 minutes, you need to have a lot of confidence and Kanye West has lots of that to hand. He did however perform “Lost In The World” with Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon. West said the song had been inspired by his wife, “This song was extra special for me. I was trying to explain to a girl I loved so much how much I loved her. She brought this poetry out in me that became the lyrics and she ended up becoming my wife and she’s here tonight“.
However, he quickly brought the attention back onto himself by making this bold statement “I’m going to say this tonight because 20 years from now, 30 years from now, 40 years from now, I might not be able to say it, but I can say it tonight… You are now watching the greatest living rock star on the planet“. Somebody needs to go up to the rapper point a finger at him and say “no” and walk away.
One Glastonbury viewer John Edger said of West’s performance “Absolutely awful. He played far too much new material – his old stuff’s decent. He’s lost it now“, while viewer Patrick Rennie said “It was incredible. It’s not often you see a guy who clears out the entire stage just for himself underneath a light show and totally and utterly delivers“.
