Kehlani is back with a message. More than a month after a reported suicide attempt, the Bay Area songstress delivers her latest effort, “24/7”. The DZL-produced song goes on to discuss the ups and downs of life, making for a very personal song, very much close to the grain.
The sound is a subversive one, chopped up, sample heavy and kind of creepy. The vocals, calm and dreamlike, seem almost at odds with the backdrop. It still works, though. The beat is stripped back towards the end, very minimal, so the vocals can breathe. The backdrop is non-existent for the final refrain, just the vocals fading out.
