When a veteran of rock ‘n’ roll gives a music-related opinion, people pay attention, especially if they are fans of said veteran. In an interview with New York Daily News, Keith Richards said exactly what he thought of Metallica and Black Sabbath. The Rolling Stone said that “[m]illions are in love with Metallica and Black Sabbath. I just thought they were great jokes”. This comment comes at a time when Black Sabbath recently announced a final world tour.
Richards then turned his attention to rap: “What rap did that was impressive was to show there are so many tone-deaf people out there. All they need is a drum beat and somebody yelling over it and they’re happy. There’s an enormous market for people who can’t tell one note from another”. For people offended by Richards’ views, I think it’s important to bear in mind that opinions are never going to be universally agreed (or disagreed) on.
