Rising artist, Kelsey Lu, has premiered her new video for “Dreams”, which is taken from her forthcoming EP, Church. The project will be released on Friday, July 8 on True Panther Sounds and was recorded live in a single take at the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. This featured her with her cello, loop pedal and distinctive voice.
Kelsey Lu will play a number of shows in support of the project, with dates in the States, aswell as playing at London’s Hyde Park, Saturday, July 2, alongside Florence + The Machine, Kendrick Lamar, Kamasi Washington and Jamie xx.
It begins sedate and ambient, the cello evoking native lands, perhaps Native American or tribal African. It then begins to rumble low, heralding percussive cello heartbeats and, finally, her earthy voice. Her voice reaches also heavenly highs before the closing moments of the lengthy effort, which ring low, subterranean low.
In terms of the visuals, it is all shot in black and white and what appears to be a desert. The instinct that the theme might be American Indian in composition is justified, especially in the location chosen, what she wears and the cameo of a horse.
