North West London rapper and producer Knucks preps for his upcoming project with the release of his latest single, “Rice & Stew” – a quirky hip-hop anthem which marks his debut major label release.
Knucks follows form with the sample-reliant production formula that he has used to much success in the past; check back to “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” or more recent hit “24“. Echoing the sentiments of the likes of Kanye West, it’s dreamy and light-hearted with the strings but it’s got the right drum patterns that inject a feel good vibe.
“Rice & Stew” comes with an official video, centered around a young Knucks raiding his parental freezer for ice cream, only to find rice stored in the tub instead. A cheeky nod to his Nigerian heritage. But creatively, it serves as a humorous metaphor for the facades people nowadays carry, which you see in the video.
Knucks shares: “The rice in the ice cream tub is a metaphor for the expectations we give people based on these illusions and the disappointment we get when we realise the truth of what’s really inside.”
