Laveda Drop New Single ‘Troy Creeps’ Ahead of Sophomore Album Release

Dream-Pop duo Laveda has released the fourth single from their highly anticipated sophomore album, A Place You Grew Up In, which is set to be released on April 14, 2023, via PaperCup Music. The new single, “Troy Creeps” strikes a balance between slacker-rock guitars and spiralling otherworldly synths, showcasing Laveda’s versatility in sleek indie-rock.

According to the band, “Troy Creeps” is a song that embodies “a long night spent alone with your thoughts.” Vocalist Ali Genevich adds that the title came from when bandmate Jake Brooks was recording the demo for the track in a small apartment in Troy, NY. He could hear everyone’s conversations outside, and people were screaming at each other about something while he was recording, so the name stuck.

The new album, “A Place You Grew Up In,” will explore the angst and anxiety that comes with coming-of-age during uncertain times. Genevich explains that the album is like a time-capsule in her memory. 2020 and 2021 felt like adulthood had crawled out from a dark cave somewhere in the woods to slowly flood her mind with 24/7 anxieties.

The album sees the duo exploring new musical territories and traversing a range of influences from The Sundays and Slowdive to The Cranberries and Radiohead. The eerie soundscapes of Broadcast’s record “Tender Buttons” and Mr Twin Sister’s “Colour Your Life” EP also inspired Genevich from both a writing and production standpoint.

Recorded by the band while staying on a ranch just outside of Los Angeles, almost all of the songs on “A Place You Grew Up In” were written between late March 2020 and summer 2021. The band members were able to find new meaning in many of the songs while in California, and Genevich describes the process as a therapeutic one. The album features Laveda’s full live band, including Dan Carr on bass and Joe Taruone on drums.

Laveda, founded by Ali Genevich and Jake Brooks, released their debut album, “What Happens After,” in 2020, which received glowing praise across the US and beyond. The band’s new album is set to showcase 12 shimmering, sensory, and sensitive tracks that will undoubtedly resonate with fans of dream-pop and indie-rock.

“Troy Creeps” is a magnetic detour into pop songwriting, according to Under the Radar. Fans of Snail Mail, Soccer Mommy, and beabadoobee will find a lot to love in Laveda’s latest single, which strikes a delicate balance between creeping anxiety and iridescent hooks.

Laveda’s “Troy Creeps” is available for streaming on all services, and the music video can be seen on their website. Be sure to mark April 14, on your calendar for the release of their highly anticipated album, A Place You Grew Up In.
