Jack Panther, London-based New Zealand artist, takes listeners on an intimate journey with his latest single “THEO“.
Co-produced with Tarn PK, who previously collaborated on “Weekend At Bernies”, and co-written alongside Sophie Bialostocki, known for “Ski Lift 001”, the alt-pop song highlights Panther’s evolution, revealing a more vulnerable and anecdotal facet of the singer.
The inception of the single occurred unexpectedly. While on a writing trip to Australia, Panther tested positive for Covid, which led to the cancellation of several of his sessions. But serendipity played its part.
Confined in a room featuring an old, slightly off-tune piano, Panther soon received a beat filled with funky guitars from Tarn. “I immediately fell in love with the groove and movement,” Panther recalls. This fortuitous moment culminated in the swift creation of the pre-chorus of “THEO”.
Panther’s reflections on the song are notably introspective. “I had never really written about falling in love until now,” he shares. While many might find the song to be an affectionate ode, Panther believes ‘THEO’ focuses on the more delicate elements of affection: crush, infatuation, and passion. He anticipates queries about the inspiration behind the song title, musing, “I like that it’s a secret.”
Emerging from West Auckland and now stationed in London, Panther’s music is an eclectic blend of melancholy, pop, indie, and alternative sounds, influenced by artists like Sky Ferreira and Arctic Monkeys. His passion for blending genres shines in “THEO”, cementing his reputation for poetic lyricism and musical prowess.
The new single serves as a sequel to the eccentric “Weekend At Bernies”. Notably, in June 2022, Panther launched his second EP, why don’t you come over?’ with its lead single, “Ski Lift 001”, gaining acclaim from Rolling Stone Australia as “one of the most hard-hitting tracks you’ll hear all year”.
“THEO” further strengthens Panther’s trajectory in the music industry, showcasing his talent and the profound depths of emotion he brings to each piece.
