Virgil Abloh, is an architect, DJ and CEO of Italian luxury fashion label Off-White. He was credited as the first American of African descent, to be given the title of artistic director of a luxury fashion house. In 2018 Virgil, was named as one of the 100 most influential individuals by Time Magazine.
Having started out from humble beginnings, he has inspired many others to pursue their passions. He interned at Fendi and by chance encounter, met Kayne West who worked collaboratively with the artist.
Through hard work, this led to Virgil catching the eye of the CEO of one of the biggest and well established brands Louis Vuitton. A few years down the line had passed; and in 2018, the designer was named artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear ready to wear line.
Talent that have sported the iconic designer’s garments are Rihanna, Serena Williams and Hailey Beiber among others.
Starting of the new year with great success, we see Virgil Abloh present the latest collection for Louis Vuitton’s menswear in their recent Autumn/Winter 2021 show. When discussing the collection, Abloh mentioned, “Within my practice, I contribute to a Black canon of culture and art and its preservation. This is why, to preserve my own output, I record it at length”.
To describe this fashion show in words would give it a true understatement; so one would suggest you rest your legs, sit down and watch this spectacular fashion show, like I did on this fine winter day.
I will give one spoiler away though for the video below, the fashion show begins on a snowy mountain in Switzerland. The video features American rapper Saul Williams, and as the scene progresses, we transition to what one can only be described as a green maze induced room, at the iconic Tennis Club de Paris.
The change of scenery in the video, also sees the change of artist as we are introduced to Yasiin Bey performing jazz. Trust me you will thoroughly enjoy the video and writing more would only spoil the surprise.
Below one has attached some of my favourite looks from the collection. Let me know your thoughts of the fashion show in the comments section, your favourite look and whether you know which author inspired the show’s entire presentation.
