Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2024 Ready-to-Wear Collection took center stage at Paris Fashion Week, marking Nicolas Ghesquière’s remarkable 10th anniversary with the iconic fashion house. The grandeur of the show, held at the Cour Carrée du Louvre, featured a colossal crowd of 4,000 attendees, including enthusiastic employees.
Ghesquière, known for seamlessly blending tradition with innovation, revisited key elements from his decade-long journey at Louis Vuitton. His signature A-line leather jackets, round-collar blouses, and sweater vests made a striking return, proving the timeless allure of his Fall/Winter 2014 debut.
The metallic-thread embroidery and cabochon stones adorned jackets reminiscent of the spring 2018 collection, while sparkling skirts harked back to the pandemic-era show of spring 2021. The eveningwear boasted swirling asymmetric hems, echoing the avant-garde scuba-suit dresses from his resort 2017 presentation in Rio.
Throughout his tenure, Ghesquière has consistently celebrated Louis Vuitton’s savoir faire and travel roots. This collection was no exception, featuring sculptural minidresses adorned with photo-printed classic trunks.
The infusion of glam-leisure, including plane-ready tracksuits with techy performance-wear details, showcased his affinity for sci-fi aesthetics. Despite drawing inspiration from past successes, Ghesquière masterfully avoided the pitfalls of nostalgia, presenting a collection that felt fresh, forward-thinking, and distinctly his own.
The runway debut of Felix from Stray Kids added an extra layer of excitement to the show. The K-pop sensation, draped in a textured white turtleneck and stylish gray pants, exuded confidence and style.
Felix’s presence resonated with the futuristic theme of the show, aligning seamlessly with Ghesquière’s vision. The Australian-born rapper’s runway appearance marked a successful collaboration since being appointed as a Louis Vuitton house ambassador in August 2023.
The collection, set against a futuristic backdrop, dazzled with shimmering and sparkling pieces predominantly in silver, navy blue, and white. The star-studded front row, featuring Saoirse Ronan, Ava DuVernay, Cate Blanchett, Lashana Lynch, Ariana Greenblatt, and Léa Seydoux, attested to the show’s widespread appeal.
