Louis Vuitton has announced today its collaboration with artist, Jeff Koons, to create a new bag line inspired by the masters of the art.
The ‘Masters’ collection will feature imagery from Koons’ Gazing Ball series of paintings – large-scale reproductions of the main art masters – on some of the most iconic fashion house’s products.
The most famous paintings of Old Masters – Da Vinci, Titian, Rubens, Fragonard and Van Gogh – have been transposed onto the canvas of the bags with artists’ name emblazoned across them, like a big hip-hop piece of jewellery.
Koons is one of the most renowned contemporary artists, whose Balloon Dog (Orange) was sold for $58.4 million at Christie’s in New York in 2013.
“What’s wonderful about working with Louis Vuitton is that there really aren’t parameters. We both had the same objective: we wanted to make something that really uses material, texture and colour to communicate and create something desirable. So there was tremendous freedom” said the artist.
