Oscar Award winner Lupita Nyong’o will produce and star in the film adaptation of Americannah written by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, after winning the film rights to the book. Nyong’o will play the leading role in the novelist’s award winning book. The story follows a Nigerian couple as they travel to England and the US to achieve their dreams in education and their careers. It shows romance which starts in their teenage years and slowly disintegrate when they move to different countries. Nyong’o said of Americannah, “I was struck by Ifemelu and Obinze’s stories as African immigrants which are so specific and so imminently relatable. It is a thrilling challenge to tell an international story so full of love, humour and heart“.
