They say imitation is the best form of flattery – well, Madonna doesn’t seem to think so. It’s been two years since the queen of pop released her chart-topping album MNDA and the lyrics from some tracks that could be featured on her newest album have been leaked to the public. It has been said that Lady Gaga, who has openly described Madonna as her ‘idol’, is in fact the target behind Madonna’s new song “Two Steps Behind Me”, in which Gaga is snubbed for her apparent unoriginality.
The 56-year-old sings, “you’re a copycat, Where is my royalty? You’re a pretty girl, I’ll give you that. But stealing my recipe, it’s an ugly look. Did you study me hard enough? You’re never gonna be, you’re just a wannabe me. Like a sister all messed-up, who’s gonna help you out? In your fantasy, you can try it all. But you can’t be me. You can walk the walk, even talk the talk. But you’ll always be two steps behind me“. Whether the controversial lyrics are completely genuine or simply to spark interest in her new album, it all feels a bit playground Madge. Buy Madonna’s last album MNDA here.
