Martin Luke Brown Releases New Single ‘To Be A Man’

Martin Luke Brown has unveiled the music video and his deeply introspective new single, “to be a man”. The track opens with a piano breaking the silence with two simple notes, soon joined by guitar, percussion, and bass, crafting a mellow yet emotionally rich soundscape.

This subtle instrumentation perfectly complements the heartfelt lyrics, which delve into the struggles and vulnerabilities of modern masculinity.Following a successful US tour with Emily King and UK and European dates with Sam Tompkins, Martin’s new single showcases his ability to mix tender lyricism with, lo-fi production.

Martin says, “I wanted to write something centered around being a man,” Martin explains. “Given the context of me being the only guy in FIZZ—which, aside from being 75% female, is extremely flamboyant and high camp—it felt natural to come back to the parts of myself I’d subconsciously pushed aside. There’s so much that the modern man wrestles with, and we rarely talk about men’s mental health. I think it’s so important to show male vulnerability and compassion.”

Martin was born and raised in Leicester, and his passion for music began at an early age. By the time he was twelve, he had taught himself several instruments. At 19, he relocated to London and soon established himself as an important part of the East Midlands’ thriving music scene, working with musicians like Mahalia, Easylife, and Saint Raymond and receiving support from BBC Introducing.

Despite landing a record deal with Parlophone as a result of his early success, Martin views that time as a time of both personal and professional instability. Martin focused on writing and producing for other people after abandoning his artist project in 2017.

He has co-written and produced more than 100 songs for singers like Lizzy McAlpine, BTS, James Blunt, and Orla Gartland in the last five years. But the 2020 lockdown gave him a chance to find his voice again and restore his enthusiasm for his own creative projects.

with “to be a man” and his forthcoming album “man oh man!” which is set for release on February 21. showcasing his growth and helps listeners understand the importance of staying true to oneself.
