Rumours are flying around about the future of the Avengers’ mentor Nick Fury after Samuel L. Jackson told reporters the character won’t be included in Marvel’s next film. Jackson confirmed during the promotion for his upcoming film Big Game that Fury won’t be featuring in Captain America: Civil War, which is currently filming. He said to Collider: “I can’t figure that out, but I’m not (in it). I guess I’m still out there, trying to figure out what happened to S.H.I.E.L.D. and who these other people are“.
Although Jackson won’t be appearing, Avengers regulars like Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner are joining Captain America actor Chris Evans in Civil War, raising the question of whether Fury is set to be retired or put on hiatus by Marvel for the near-future. Captain America: Civil War is also set to star Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Paul Bettany and Martin Freeman, with plans for a yet-uncast Spider-Man to also feature. It’ll be in cinemas next May.
