Actor Mike Epps is set to play leading pioneer of comedy Richard Pryor in a film biopic. Oscar Award nominated director Lee Daniels is taking charge of the film. Richard Pryor and his family had previously cast Epps to play him in a film project meant to take place in 2005, but the production for the film never took off, and Pryor passed away in the same year. Pryor changed comedy by speaking openly about life experiences suffered growing up, and his brutally honest stand-up comedy influenced a host of comedians including Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock, both Pryor and Epps got their break by appearing on HBO show Def Comedy Jam. Oprah Winfrey will feature in the film as Pryor’s grandmother and will also produce the film.
