The Scots that just don’t stop have announced yet another album coming our way. This will mark album number 9 if it’s categorised in the same way as their previous studio albums. However, despite how Mogwai brandish their unique post-rock sound as their selling point, this one will be especially unique as it acts as a soundtrack album. A version of these set of songs originally accompanied the BBC four documentary “Atomic: Living in Dread and Promise”, directed by Mark Cousins which aired last year. After some reworking, updated versions have been adapted and will now compile the Atomic album.
Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite comments on the album by stating: “The Atomic soundtrack is one of the most intense and fulfilling projects we’ve taken on as a band. Ever since we went to Hiroshima to play and visited the peace park this has been a subject very close to us. The end results, both the film score and the record are pieces I’m extremely proud of.”
The album will be released on April 1st but you can click below to hear their first track “U-235” which lead the new album.
