To mark the end of the last NBA season, where the Los Angeles Lakers came out winners, Louis Vuitton unveiled a spring-summer 2021 pre-collection produced in collaboration with the NBA in October 2020.
At that time, we saw the Larry O’Brien trophy transported and presented alongside the Louis Vuitton trunk, which was designed exclusively for this occasion. The event marked the beginnings of a long collaboration between the American basketball league and the French luxury brand.
Now, they are continuing their ongoing partnership signed for three years. The two have come together again for a new capsule dedicated to the Pre-Fall 2021 season. This second capsule explores the 1990s, the golden age of the sports discipline.
Celebrating the NBA’s influence on pop culture and fashion, some items were made with designer Don Crawley. He is known for his earlier work focused on the fusion of design and sport. Virgil Abloh also worked on the collection, merging the classic LV monogram with casual wear alongside more colorful text patterns.
From balloon-shaped pouches, to mesh-embellished sports bags, the two are once again showing creativity and originality by smartly merging their respective codes. Together, they reinvent a complete dressing. In the capsule, they are mixing the three dress codes of a basketball player: the trip, the game and the press conference.
This second Louis Vuitton x NBA capsule collection will be available in Louis Vuitton stores, and will be available on Friday, May 28.
