New York City-based band, Petting Zoo, is on the brink of releasing their latest single, “Pinks n Reds“, setting the stage for their highly-anticipated EP scheduled to drop later this year.
Having penned and recorded this track right from their bedroom studio, the ensemble stays true to their grassroots style while manifesting a flair that resonates with city-dwellers and music enthusiasts alike.
Established in Norwalk, Connecticut, Petting Zoo’s present line-up brings together a dynamic crew: Zack Ely, Bennett Newman, Joe Wen, Colin Berger, and DEEGAN. Their journey from their debut tracks in 2022 to the new offerings in 2023-24 has been a blend of hard work and impactful performances.
Notably, the band has left its mark at prominent New York venues. Their collaboration with Sofar NYC stands as testament to their appeal, alongside a commendable appearance at the New York Songwriters Circle showcase, hosted at the iconic Bitter End.
Adding to their milestones, the band will take center stage, headlining NYC’s Mercury Lounge on September 29th, a nod to their escalating presence in the city’s music scene.
The upcoming single has already gained traction even before its official launch. It is set to feature on AlexRainBirdMusic’s October 2023 Indie/Pop/Folk compilation, hinting at a spike in streams and greater exposure for the band.
Reflecting on their past accolades, Petting Zoo has donned multiple hats — from opening for the 502s at the 2022 RCA Summer Concert Series to sharing the limelight at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom in June 2022. Their performances at local NYC venues, including the Mercury Lounge and the Bitter End, have witnessed packed houses, underscoring their growing fan base.
And while their music is certainly the highlight, the bandmates bring their own quirks and unique tales. For instance, Zack’s never given unicycle riding a try, Bennett confesses his partiality for black raspberry ice cream, Joe boasts a commendable Uber rating of 4.92, Colin intriguingly has one foot that’s growing, and DEEGAN? He takes the trophy as the group’s best dancer.
