We have all been missing red carpets, events and nights out since the pandemic, but award season this year will still be special, and one of the most prestigious of them all, the Oscar Awards have already delayed its 2021 ceremony by two months, and the event will now be taking place on April 25. The full list of this year’s nominees have just been announced this week.
Of course, this year’s Oscar Awards nominees have risen to the top, despite the fact that movies were not released in cinemas over the past 12 months for most countries at least.
For a lot of the nominated films, streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV+ are where these films were released and thrived, and so one could say that these platforms have helped the film industry to keep up in these difficult times.
This year’s nominees list marks the first time that there is that much diversity in the nominations, from race to gender and much more, but as with previous years, there are certain films that stand out from the list, for example, the movie Mank has been nominated for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor for Gary Oldman.
It is also nominated for Best Supporting Actress with Amanda Seyfried, Production Design, Costume Design, Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Sound, Best Original Score, making it the movie with the most nominations for the 2021 Oscars, but there are also others that stand out.
This year, it is the first time that they are two women who are nominated as Best Director, we have Chloé Zhao for Nomadland and also Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman.
Asian people are also more and more represented, thanks to the nomination of strong>Minari for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress with Yuh-Jung Youn, Original Screenplay, Best Original Score and its actor Steven Yeun who is also nominated for Best Actor.
Nomadland, The Father, Sound Of Metal and Judas and the Black Messiah also have many nominations in line. We will have to wait a few weeks to get an update on this list but we already have some of our favorite movies from 2020-2021 here.
Hopefully even with the pandemic going on, the Oscars event will be held in person in some fashion, with the red carpet and the usual nine yards.
